let's say you lift perfectly straight, right down the middle, and the smasher is right handed.
isn't it true that he his "default" is a straight smash, but if he wanted to vary the angle, it most likely veer to the right? for the sake of power and consistency, let's say the spectrum of angle is 30-40 degrees.
he could, hypothetically speaking, turn his racket face and smash towards the left, but that is unlikely, and also takes a lot of power off, and that is seen as more of a "singles" tactic.
my point being, does it really make sense to have the defenders being dead centre in their respective portions, or should they slightly "cheat" towards the right side a little bit? That way the centre channel isn't completely empty, and you might get a better return from it?
just a thought.
